Members of the network spoke at an event entitled ‘Accelerating development in biomedical engineering’ on April 6th at The McGrath Centre, St. Catherine’s College, Cambridge. The event addressed the “hows and whys” of successful collaborations in biomedical engineering through a series of presentations and discussions on topics such as including managing clinical data in an interdisciplinary context, and managing pathways from research to clinical practice.
Professor Sir Mark Welland from the Nanoscience Centre spoke on ‘Developing advanced therapeutics through industry collaboration’ and Professor John Clarkson of the Cambridge Engineering Design Centre gave a talk on ‘A systems approach to healthcare improvement.’ Also speaking were Professor Matthew Allen, who spoke about ‘Collaborations in biomechanics and bioengineering’ and Professor Andrew McCaskie, who gave a talk on ‘A multidisciplinary approach in orthopaedics’.
The themes were:
- Medical devices, therapeutics and systems engineering innovation
- Biomechanics, movement and gait
- Imaging and informatics
