I graduated in Biomedical Sciences, with a placement year at GlaxoSmithKline, from the University of Manchester and then I studied for an MSc in Clinical Research at Cranfield University. I spent 18 months working in the Cambridge Blood and Stem Cell Biobank before pursuing my PhD in the Department of Surgery at the University of Cambridge.
Research Interests
My research interests are in the field of regenerative treatment strategies for disease. Understanding molecular mechanisms for the identification of novel therapeutic strategies and in particular targeting endogenous repair to encourage tissue repair.
Current Research
My PhD investigated the role of bone marrow niche cell populations and granulocyte colony stimulating factor in bone and cartilage repair. During this time, I developed a model to study osteochondral repair. Going forward I intend to use this and in vitro techniques to advance the understanding of the role different cell populations play in osteochondral wound healing. Furthermore and importantly, I will investigate how these populations can be targeted to improve outcomes of endogenous repair mechanisms.
Areas of expertise
bone and cartilage biology; osteochondral repair; mesenchymal stem cells; haematopoietic cells; osteoarthritis; animal models; cell culture; molecular biology; histology; flow cytometry.
